Fountain Building

Missing You

Fountain Building, in Courthouse Square, houses the offices of Randall Whitehead Sr. and Whitehead Construction. It becomes the setting for Jessica Mastriani’s direct confrontation with Randall Whitehead Sr. and Randy Whitehead Jr., bringing the investigation into the Whiteheads’ filming operation into their own business offices and placing the demand for Randy Jr.’s surrender before his father.

Setting and Access

Jessica identifies Courthouse Square as the group’s destination and names the offices of Randall Whitehead Sr. in Fountain Building. Rob Wilkins confirms that the visit is intended to reach both Randall Whitehead Sr. and his son. At the building, a driver tells them both Whiteheads will see them, and Jessica leads the group through the atrium lobby to Whitehead Construction.

The receptionist appears to have been told to expect them: rather than ask who they are, she rises nervously, offers refreshments, and leads them onward. The route from the atrium lobby into the company offices gives the confrontation a formal setting, but the receptionist’s nervous welcome suggests that the visit has already unsettled the workplace.

The Whitehead Office

The receptionist brings the visitors into a large, sunny office. An enormous modern desk fills one corner; four matching black-leather-and-chrome chairs face it. Randall Whitehead Sr. sits behind the desk, while Randy Whitehead Jr. occupies one of the chairs. Kristin Pine sits in another, appearing small beside the office’s imposing furnishings. Jessica recognizes her as the girl previously seen in Apartment 1S and in the videotapes marked with Kristin’s name.

The office assembles the people and evidence at the center of the confrontation in one place: the senior Whitehead behind his desk, his son beside Kristin, and Jessica’s party before them. Randall Whitehead Sr. greets Jessica with a broad grin and questions whether she is the person responsible for the commotion. Randy Jr. responds with hostility toward Rob Wilkins, who ignores the glance.

Confrontation and Significance

After Randy Jr. falls silent, Kristin appears close to tears, as does Randy Jr. Randall Whitehead Sr. apologizes to Jessica and Rob, says he knew nothing about his son’s involvement in the film business, and asks what he can do to make amends. Jessica answers with a specific demand: that his son turn himself in to the officers waiting in the reception area.

Jessica checks her watch and places the moment at ten o’clock. Before either Whitehead can answer, the intercom on Randall Whitehead Sr.’s desk buzzes, and both men gape at her. Fountain Building thus serves not merely as the address of the senior Whitehead’s offices but as the site where Jessica turns an apology into an immediate test of accountability, with the waiting officers just beyond the office and reception.
